When NACA dissolved and NASA was established in 1958, it became the NASA Lewis Research Center. It was officially renamed the John H. Glenn Research Center at Lewis Field in 1999. Its heritage in the field of space propulsion heritage the development of the liquid hydrogen-liquid oxygen rocket engine, considered by Von Braun to be one of the key technologies to the success of the [[Apollo]] program in landing humans on the moon, and the development of advanced space propulsion technologies such as the [[ion engine]], which was first developed and tested by NASA Lewis (now Glenn) scientists.
